Steps
Pre-approval process

[Only if: Applies to RPBI, CHG, CGD, and RSME permit types] Hold job meeting before starting certain permit types (AI draft, not checked): Some permit types such as Residential Permit by Inspector (RPBI), Hillside & Grading permits (CHG, CGD) and Residential Remodel for Fire Rehabilitation (RSME) require a job meeting before the job is started.
Design process

Confirm project needs a permit (AI draft, not checked): Construction permits are required for new homes and remodels or additions such as garage/carport construction or conversion, porch enclosures, demolition, patio covers, fences/walls, and other construction projects. Refer to the Residential Single-Family Construction Permit Guide for a detailed list of construction types requiring permits.
Permit application process

Submit residential photovoltaic project by email (AI draft, not checked): For residential photovoltaic (solar) submissions, email pdd.photovoltaic.residential@phoenix.gov or visit the SolarAPP/Photovoltaic Projects site.
4.
Submit design to SolarAPP+ (AI draft, not checked): Submit proposed design to SolarAPP+, register or log in, and input project design parameters. A processing fee will be assessed by SolarAPP+ for use of their product.

Apply for permit through PDD online permit portal (AI draft, not checked): Apply for the permit through the Planning & Development Department online permit portal. Applicant must enter the SolarAPP+ approval ID in the applicable field, and email the SolarAPP+ approved document, approvals upload document (including manufacturer specification sheets), three-line diagram and plot plan to pdd.records@phoenix.gov, including the PDD permit number and property address in the subject line. The SolarAPP+ approved checklist, three-line diagram and plot plan must all correlate or inspection delays will occur.

Submit SolarAPP+ revisions (AI draft, not checked): Submit revised plans to SolarAPP+ and obtain the required approval report. Email approved SolarAPP+ revision documents (including manufacturer specification sheets), three-line diagram and plot plan to pdd.residential.solarapp@phoenix.gov with 'Revision', the PDD permit number and property address in the subject line. PDD staff will update the existing permit and notify the applicant via email of additional fees due for a record change.

Inspection process

Schedule SolarAPP+ inspection (AI draft, not checked): Schedule the inspection online by entering the permit number and web inspection key and completing requested information. Call 602-262-7811 if additional assistance is required.

Close-out process
8.
Pay SolarAPP+ revision fees (AI draft, not checked): Pay fees online or call 602-534-5934. Once fees are paid, notify staff of payment via email at pdd.residential.solarapp@phoenix.gov. PDD staff will verify payment and email a copy of the updated permit.
